Learning In India
For VIPKid’s July Project, we are honoring our teachers around the world and learning what a teacher’s day-to-day schedule looks like from where they teach! VIPKid is dedicated to creating a global classroom and what better way to showcase and celebrate that than with our wonderful teachers!
This week, we are learning with Teacher Jessica! Teacher Jessica is based in India. Let’s see what she says about being an online teacher with VIPKid!
What does your day-to-day schedule look like as an online teacher with VIPKid?
“Each day for me is a little different. Life in India is like that for me. I usually wake up to a hot cup of coffee or cold coffee if it’s during the hot, hot summer! Then I’ll teach my VIPKid classes whenever they occur throughout the day, sometimes early in the morning, late morning, or afternoon. Then between classes, I volunteer at a NonProfit where my husband works, called JanPragati. It centers around poverty alleviation for families by providing education for kids in the slums and community development. So I help the teachers learn how to teach English to their slum children. Then we’ll hang out with some friends or family and come home, play with our dog, Shiny, and eat by 9pm. I love trying to cook Indian food and am in the process of learning the Hindi language as well. Most days I’m a teacher as well as a student!”
What is your favorite memory as an online teacher?
“My favorite memory is with my student Chen Run Ze! We were talking about the Terracotta Warriors during a lesson. The next week he came back all excited to tell me about his visit to the Terracotta Warrior Museum! It was awesome seeing the pictures he took.”
What is your favorite part about being an online teacher?
“I absolutely love teaching children from all over the world, helping them to reach their goal of learning English, one step at a time.”
What brought or inspired you to teach online with VIPKid?
“I had heard great things about VIPkid and had recently become interested in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. My experience learning a second and third language also helps me to identify with my language learners, which I love.”
What is something your students may be surprised to learn about you?
“I love to go camping and hiking in the mountains! I live in India with my husband!”
Thank you Teacher Jessica for inviting us into your classroom! It was so wonderful to see what it would be like to learn and teach from India!
